Resolves YES if PACCAR, Daimler Truck North America, Volvo Group or Navistar publicly announces a planned reduction in Class 8 production for any quarter of 2027 on or before December 31, 2026 (11:59 PM ET). The announcement must come via press release, earnings call commentary, regulatory filing or confirmed trade press reporting from a credible source (Transport Topics, FreightWaves, Reuters, Bloomberg or equivalent). General softening in build cadence without a specific announced reduction does not qualify, and short-term production pauses limited to weeks within 2026 do not qualify. Resolves NO otherwise, including if no qualifying announcement occurs by the deadline.
March 2026 Class 8 net orders printed at 38,000 units, up 126% year-over-year. April preliminary orders of 24,800 units came in lower than March in absolute terms but ran 201% above April 2025, an even stronger year-over-year jump than March posted, and held up well against the seasonal spring slowdown that typically precedes the September 2026 orderboard opening for 2027 build slots. The order surge has been driven by fleets pulling equipment-replacement decisions forward to lock in pre-EPA pricing before EPA 2027 emissions standards add roughly $30,000 to the cost of a new Class 8 truck. The historical pattern from prior EPA emissions cycles in 2002, 2007 and 2010 is consistent: pre-buy surges followed by sharp post-implementation drops in deliveries. The September 2026 orderboard opening is the next test of whether the pre-buy has fully run its course or whether more pull-forward demand is still in the pipeline. This market prices whether any of the four major North American Class 8 OEMs (PACCAR, Daimler Truck North America, Volvo Group or Navistar) publicly announces a 2027 production reduction before December 31, 2026.
